12k Of Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, we all tend to over indulge a little bit. This year I've been a little greedy with my Medal Mad races for December along with all my other events. The way I think about it, those extra miles mean I can enjoy a few more mince pies. Also, now that Medal Mad are selling Medal Hangers (if my wife gets my hint that I want one as a present), I'll have somewhere to hang all of my Christmas Bling!

My first challenge was the 12K of Christmas. I wanted to get this done in one go on the 1st of December but a comedy night and a few beers put pay to that, so I used my weekly Saturday morning Parkrun to make up the miles. My local parkrun is Tilgate, near Gatwick which has a lovely lake that we run round twice, plus a couple of hills added to the mix. This week I ran my quickest time of the year in a time of 24.44 – I was well pleased!

On Sunday together with my wife Melissa and a few friends, I took part in the Buxted Park Reindeer Run, a 5K Cross country in aid of Uckfield fire station. Lovely course, and really fun as it was fancy dress. Plenty of Santa's and Elves, but wanting to be a little different I went as Joseph!

It was worth the effort – I won a prize as one of the best fancy dress costume!

Back to the race.. A lot of this was on the private land of Buxted Park so none of us really knew the course. Plenty of mud, some nice paths and across a field .. all to be expected. What they didn't tell us about were the hills and really slippery logs that we had the navigate around. I did the 5K, but there was also a 10k which was two laps. I was surprised when I got to the finish and there were only a few of us there – then I saw the results and I was delighted to have finished 11th.

So with the Reindeer run and Park Run making up 10k of my challenge completed, it was just my normal run commute on Monday morning for the final 2k. Sorry to say that one was not in fancy dress!

My Next Challenge is the 20.17, where I need to run as far as possible in 20 mins and 17 seconds. I want to make this a quick one, so I'm off to run that on the dread-mill!

I hope you are enjoying your pre-Christmas running as much as I am!
