  • A question for the audience! In Parkrun, 25 volunteers gets you a t-shirt, while 50 runs does. I'm now at 29 runs and 17 volunteers (for all time)....so which t-shirt would YOU chase? I still need at least 5 this year to meet my Challenge target.

35.4 miles this week. I helped a friend finish the couch 2 5k program this week and we ran her first park run together on Saturday, did my long coastpath run which I previously posted about, a few short runs and a social club breakfast run today. ‏ — feeling happy

So, I didn’t post last week, so I thought with the retrospective look on it, if give it a bit more detail. Apologies for the long diatribe, I have actually gone into too much detail, feel free to scroll on by..!
I had a hard fought three miles on Monday, which I had hoped to follow up with a 5 on Tuesday, but the opportunity to get out on the tarmac just wasn't there.
I wanted to get in that 5 as the week represented an end of an era (no, although my 40th birthday on the Sunday I don’t mean my thirties!)
For the past couple of years, Kim has taken Iris to the school toddler group on a Wednesday in term time. Practically every week, with only a few that they have missed. For the last year to 18mths I have used that time to go out for a run wherever possible. As they are gone for around 2hrs, I have made Wednesday mornings my long run time (don't do long run Sunday..!) with the school year finishing the following week, this was the last session of toddler group and Iris won't be going back again as she will start nursery in September. I realise that means she is out for 3hrs every morning, but it isn't a specific day that I have locked in to do that longer run on, so won't be as affective at getting me out of the door.
As this was my last long run Wednesday, I wanted to go a bit longer. I'd love to have done the run I wanted a couple of months back when I ran to my old work and back, clocking 10miles. I wanted to extend that out, running the perimeter of the site to push that out to 12/13miles (at which point I would have detoured a little en route home to make it up to 13.1 - standard!!). Unfortunately I never got around to doing that run, with the week at CubJam, then our holiday, my regular running got interrupted and I scaled back when I got back into it, not really building back up to the bigger distances as yet. BUT, this was my very last toddler group run. I hadn't got out on the Tuesday, hadn't run anything more than 5 or 6 miles for a long time and I wasn't feeling too great either, BUT I was going out and going long(ish) I wanted to run at least 8 if not 10 miles.
I headed down towards the seafront for a coastal trot. I was feeling really rough and was struggling early on, but I had to push on. My headphones started beeping at me too, so I had a feeling this was going to be a hard run! I followed my usual path around the Ramsgate coastline and although when I got to the cinema I really REALLY wanted to turn down my usual road and head home that way, but I wanted to go longer so I pressed on for my originally planned route through King George VI park to Dumpton. As I headed through the park, at around the 4.5mile mark, my headphones died. 😧
I hate running without music and still had over 30mins worth of running to do
I had to keep on keeping on, so I pressed on forward and stuck to my plan. I headed back the same route as my run a couple of weeks back with some double backing on myself to boost the mileage. Although this time I stretched it out more, looping out and around the local shopping centre then home. I actually hit the 10mile mark when I was a few doors away from my house, so it turned out pretty well in the end!

Second week of the Nike training done, felt weird only doing 1k one day however it was a 5min k as opposed to my usual 7min ks which could be why it wore me out so much! There doesn’t seem to be many actual long runs but then the only training plan I’ve ever used is C25k and that was all about increasing time not distance. Oh well I guess it’s just trust in the app! Am a little worried that Parkrun won’t fit into this app due to the distances they want me to run but we’ll see. Can always squeeze the missing days into the end of the year!

No runs at all this week. Unfortunately life just got in the way. I was busy all day on Monday, had my twins’ 10th birthday Tuesday and then took weds and thurs off work as I had loads to do, so had no time Friday as I was playing catch up at work. So, I’m still yet to post my first run in my 40’s after my Birthday last Sunday. I did run 13 miles the week before, but didn’t post about it as I had a spa day, drinks, dinner out on Friday last week as my birthday treat. I’ll write that up separately now...
But, onwards and upwards. Need to pull my finger out and post some runs. School broken up for summer now, so daytime running is gonna be much harder for me.. wish me luck!!

Managed my longest coast path run yesterday 18.2 miles in preparation for The RAT in August. Ran from Perranuthnoe to Porthleven and back. The coastline in Cornwall is absolutely stunning! Suffering today, but really pleased to get my miles and be out there on such a beautiful day!

So half way through the month and I am just under where I wanted to be on the monthly target of 60km.. I have run 24km so far this month. Which is a little disappointing. So time to up my game and stop making excuses. I have no reason to not run! On a lighter note I'm visiting Devon in the beginning of August so really looking forward to some coastal runs and actually having something to look at rather than just road and concrete buildings!

I will be mapping some possible runs from where I am staying in Devon tonight. Just so I have some idea as to where I am going to go. As I have a tendency to get lost...🤪

35 miles last week, another mix of coastpath and road. Enjoyed my miles particularly an unexpected 10 mile coastpath run on Friday with my husband and a run with a friend who has just completed her couch to 5k journey and managed to run just over 4 miles on a single run on Sunday. ‏ — feeling happy

Saturday plans were finally chilled enough for a normal Parkrun. Yay! Shout out to my friend who came to do her first one on our local course, and managed to come 1st lady and 10th overall #bossgirl

No new medals this week but I signed up for ANOTHER race so that's one in the bag for September.

So this month I have so far hit a new 10K PB of 1:03:33 and also got a Strava crown! So I'm really happy with how this month is going. I want break the 30 minute mark this month for my 5K PB. I'm off work Monday and so I'm going to take the dog and thrash one out, hopefully I will break that mark! If not then I will try again another day but it must be done!

The progress I have made since starting running is phenomenal. I have persuaded the wife to start running and she has now started the C25K app I did. Looking back it's amazing. When I started I could barely run for a minute without feeling like I was going to keel over! Now I can comfortably run a 5K at a slow pace without stopping. The progression has been subtle. But I think the best thing is my mental attitude. I have learnt to mentally push myself. When I am hurting and don't want to run anymore I can mentally push through the pain and the body does respond.

This challenge has really kept me going on days when I didn't want to. Also I got my run the board medal. 🏅🏆I originally wanted to achieve this in 3 months. It took me 2 months and a few days to achieve in the end. So I exceeded my expectations. And I love it! It's huge 😆.

I didn’t go to Parkrun. However on Wednesday I went out and did 5k and then used the Nike running app to set up a training plan for the half marathon (only 13 weeks to go I think!) Today was a benchmark run and those 3 minutes of pushing were so hard! However I am confident that this app will get me where I need to be and help me get my medals too!

33 miles last week 😊 and it was a mixture of road and coastpath. All crammed in Monday - Friday, as it was a birthday party weekend for my daughter who was 7 on Sunday. Back to it today with a short run this morning and a top up run tonight, trying to avoid the heat 😊
