I have started this challenge as a new runner who runs on average 2-3km per run every other day to test my persistence and give me the motivation to continue. I'm hoping that throughout the year my runs will get longer.

I want to test myself, and see what I really am made of.

I look forward to completing the challenge and earning this amazing medal.

I think a little about me is required here... I have stage 4 renal failure, I have already had a successful kidney transplant and this has worked for the last 4 years however is declining in function. Therefore I want to achieve as much as I can before I have to go back on dialysis. I have finally found something I really love doing!

It's funny because I would always see runners and think that looks like a lot of hard work and never think of doing it myself. Then one day I tried and I realised I was right! It is a lot of hard work... But it's a lot of fun!

    I'm back!

Took it easier this morning and ran at a comfortable pace, I managed to complete the run I set out to do at a reasonable pace. It seems this pace is the way forward for the time being as my ankle held up the whole way. Was a little achy when I got home but seems fine now.

This is the run I am most proud of to date, as I ran 95% of it. I only walked as I had to check on my phone that I was following the route before I got very lost. It was a run that felt good, before, during and after. I loved every second of it. Now I am back in my running shoes properly I will definately be starting the run the board challenge soon. I am going to try and smash it out in 2 months, June and July. However I realise this is a big challenge so if I take the 3 months to complete it. I don't mind.

So I have been doing a lot of walking recently rather than running, but at a fast pace. To try and build my legs up a little before I start running properly again. I'm still running, just little by little as this injury is still niggling away. However I am still getting the km's in. I have so far ran and walked 37.1km this month. Which is huge considering we are only on day 10. So that takes my total to a respectable 209.1km for the year so far!

I walk to work everyday, whatever the weather and most days I will walk home too. I can feel my muscles working really hard as I am having to use my roller a lot lately! To my absolute pleasure 😐. Everyone knows that rollers just feel so damn good!

I am really excited about starting my next medal and also my race in June. Although I do not have a clue what I am doing I'm sure I will work it out on the day. I have volounteered myself to set up again as I really enjoyed setting up the Peterborough marathon.

Not much more to report at the moment.

I went for a small run tonight. I wanted to take a slow run to weigh up where my muscle recovery is. But ended up with an okay run... Faster than I wanted really.. it's like I cannot run slower. My body just wants to goooo. Since I finished my Runderground medal I am unsure wether to start my run the board a month early or wait one more month and start it in June. I will continue running this month now I know that my muscle can take it. As I need to start training for my 10k in June anyway. Yes I took the plunge and entered my first race! What have I done ðŸĪŠ

Not being able to run last month for most of the month literally gave me the motivation to absolutely smash it from now in. And also try not to get injured again, although I know this is an unfortunate side effect of running.

So I'm currently sitting at 172km for the year. Which is great. It's further than I thought I would have run at this point. It's further than I have ever run. I'm still on target to finish with over 500km by the end of the year. So although I had an off few weeks due to injury I am still going to achieve my target!

I have finally finished my Runderground medal! It has been a really crap month for running. I haven't managed to get out anywhere bear as much as I would have liked because I haven't really been able to walk. It turns out it was peroneal tendonitis and not an Achilles injury. So that is the news. Wether it be good or bad who knows.

All I know is it's starting to slowly recover so with a few more days of rest, I should be good to go for may. I was making real progress and now it just feels like I'm back to square one.

This running game is a constant battle with trying to push your body past its limits and I'm figuring out slowly how far I should be pushing mine. It's annoyed me so much that this injury has plagued a month of running. However if I rest properly then I should be all good to go for it next month.

So I managed to get out today after a week of letting my Achilles tendon rest. I must admit I was really nervous about running and very careful that I didn't over do it, as I didn't want to make my injury worse. However I loved every second of getting out again. I couldn't have waited any longer. It was a light run that started off a good solid pace and then went downhill from there, pace wise anyway.

My first km was a good 6:00 but then each following was 7:30+. However I'm not downhearted about it. It's another 5km chipped off my Runderground medal and another 5km towards my yearly target. I may be behind on my monthly target this month with not being able to run for a week because of the pain and being unable to walk properly. However now that I know I can at least run 5km with this Achilles I shall be doing at least every other day.

So I only have just over 12km left to run on my Runderground to achieve my target. It has taken me a lot longer than I would have liked as I planned on doing it in 4, 10km runs. However I didn't plan on getting injured so plans have had to change. I cannot wait to finish it. I cannot wait for my injury to heal. And I cannot wait to get on with trying for a new 10k PB. As I am hoping to enter a 10K race this year in June. Dependant on my tendon.

Added another 5K on to my yearly total on Friday and my ankle is really playing up now. I am unsure wether to run for a few days as I don't want to make it worse however I don't want to not run! It's a dilemma. I am currently on 58% for my Runderground and I know I can box it off in 2 runs it's just wether I should or not for now. I will have to see how it is tomorrow as I am tired today after a long night.

I volounteered for my first event last night from midnight onwards. Setting up the first Peterborough marathon! I have never done this before and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Walking some of the course really made me realise how far 26.2 miles is!! I met some great people and got stuck in with the hard work. It was interesting to see behind the scenes of how hard everyone works to put an event together. It was great getting involved with Sublime Racing as they are a great bunch of people. Really dedicated to putting on great events.

I will definately be volounteering my time again in the future. And I will also be entering events too.

I'm currently sitting at 24.2 km for the month so far, also 157km for the year. If I can get to 200km by the end of the month I will be overjoyed!

So my first 2 runs with the Garmin went well, first managed a 10K and second run was this morning and managed another 5K. So adding the km to the challenge. My aim this month is still to hit 100K for the month! If I achieve it then I will be overjoyed. If not then at least I have it a good go!

I couldn't resist but to join up to the Runderground medal. I am currently around 46% of the way through it. So I look forward to adding that to my collection.😁

I am happy with the progress I am making although I did struggle a little this morning and I only went for a 5K. I think I forget that it's okay not to have a good run. And just because I have gone 10+ km it doesn't mean I can breeze a distance that is half of that. I think I may have started off this morning too quickly and so my legs were just not happy with me. I also developed a but of a twinge in my ankle, so had to take the pace down as I really don't want to risk an injury. I think I need to work on my 5K distance for now. Try and get that boxes off so I'm happy with the pace and able to run the whole thing without stopping. I may still throw a longer run in now and then, but I am going to try and run more, shorter distances. ‏ — feeling sweat

My wonderful wife bought me a new watch for my birthday yesterday. It's my first Garmin so I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it. I did a small run on the 1st April and injured my foot, so going to take a few days to just make sure I'm back to normal and then really go for it this month. I want 100km. I'm going to achieve this.

I am really looking forward to starting the run the board challenge. It's going to be a real challenge, which is why I entered.

I'm finishing this month on 63.9km. Which isn't the 75 km that I wanted. Although I am actually ahead of target still which is awesome. I have ran further than ever before this month. I have really enjoyed it. April is my birthday month and so I am going to up my game and really push to see if I can get close to 100km ran in just a month. Which will also be good preparation for the run the board challenge.

I got up early this morning with a mission. My mission was to run that extra 1 and a bit km to finally reach the 10K mark. It was tough and there were times I just wanted to walk home... But I achieved it. I finally ran my first 10K. In a pretty reasonable time also. I wanted to keep my pace under 7:00 a km. Which I managed so I'm really happy with that.

I want to try and hit 75km by the end of the month as I'm currently sitting at 58.7km. Which has smashed my previous 2 months. But I think if I can hit 75k by the end of the month I will have more confidence in going into the run the board challenge as I need to be hitting this amount a month to complete it. And there is no way I am not going to achieve that medal!

I'm going to try and do smaller recovery runs after I run over 8km to see if this helps as I have heard a lot about it.

After having a couple of days for my leg to heal, (due to new tattoo), I thought today I would try and run a little further than I have ever run before. Try and get a little closer to the 10K mark. I certainly did that. I managed to run a lot further than I have ever done before. A massive 8.72km which is a huge achievement for me. I felt it this morning it was a hard fought run, but I really enjoyed the extra challenge of running past my comfort zone.

I am making good pace at the moment. I would ideally like to get it closer to the 6:00 a km mark but that will come with time. As my body gets stronger my times will get quicker I imagine. I am just in awe of the progress I have made so far in just 3 months. I'm suprising myself with what I can achieve when I put my mind to it.

Have had to take a few days off of running to let a fresh tattoo heal on my leg but will be back on it again either today or tomorrow dependant on time.

I'm planning on trying for my first 10km run within the next week or maybe 2. I feel as though it's something I could achieve if I really push myself. As I always have a little left in the tank after my runs. Not much but enough for maybe another km. So in theory I should be able to slowly and gradually push up my distance in the coming weeks to finally hit the magic 10K.

Who knows... We will see. ‏ — feeling great

I have FINALLY hit 100km for the year!

I have been running really well the past few runs and managed to run my longest run so far on Friday morning. Which was not far off 7km! Then this morning I just couldn't get out of my head on my run and it severely effected my performance as I only managed to run 3.9km. I was disappointed at first, but then came to realise that maybe it was always going to happen. I have been running so well lately that maybe I needed this set back to give me the motivation to power through. So on my next run I will be more prepared to combat my own thoughts and try and stay positive through my run. After all, I am a firm believer of if you have a positive mental attitude then you can achieve anything.

I have also took the leap.... I have joined the Run the Board Medal! 225km! What am I doing!! I am going to slowly try and increase distance until June and then once the actual challenge starts I am going to give it my all, go hell for leather and achieve my Medal. It is going to be a massive challenge. As it is pretty much half of my challenge target in 3 months. But I know I can achieve it if I put my mind to it and I feel that by June I will be ready to tackle it.

So all in all I have had ups and downs this week... However I also believe that you will never truly appreciate the good times if you don't go through the bad aswell. So I have learnt a lot and can take this new found knowledge of my mind and body through my next runs.

So running has added more to my life than I first thought. I have been talking to an old friend from my school days as he runs also and we met up yesterday for an early morning run! I haven't seen this guy for 12 years!! But had an absolutely awesome run, I managed to run for longer than I ever have before without walking, I managed the longest distance I have ran so far and at an average pace also!! When I first went out it was a little drizzly, this turned into a mix between hail and heavy rain ... So I ended up getting absolutely soaked, right through to my bones. But I still loved every second of the run. And rain will not stop me from achieving what I want to achieve.

My legs must be getting used to the constant battering as they are not aching as much the next day anymore, along with stretching properly and I have also purchased a foam roller! Used it once. Didn't like it. Felt like I was getting a massage by a herd of stampeding cows. However I will persevere with it as I know it does help.

So all in all this challenge has given me the absolute motivation to get out, regardless of the weather and get the kms in.

I'm managing to consistently run over 5km on each run now. It was raining and extremely windy but I managed to get out and enjoyed it. For the past 3 runs I have managed it. My legs are definately feeling it, stretching out after my runs has really helped. I have definately been neglecting that previously. The dog decided to join in on the stretching after my run, which made it rather hard! Especially when stretching glutes as he decided to jump on my face. Great help that was 😂

Another positive about all my running is I am actually developing calf muscles. Which is a massive plus. I am definately considering entering for the run the board Medal as it seems like something I could now achieve. We will see...

I finally breached the 5Km mark! Its coming along slowly. I am taking my running much more seriously lately. I have been stretching after my runs and I am going to focus on my strength training to try and build my legs and core up so I can further progress and work on my pace.

This has become more of a lifestyle for me now. I originally wanted to focus on my fitness, but it's more than that now. It's become an actual passion. I am actually very surprised how much progress I have made so far.

February is coming to a close and the warmer weather is creeping in slowly... Although it's supposed to get cold again this week, which is disappointing. But I must admit I do enjoy running in the cold. I'm not sure how I will fair running when it's a bit warmer as haven't done that in many years.

My aim originally was to run 30km a month. However since upping my challenge to 500km for the year I will have to run around 41-42km a month. It's looking likely that I am going to finish this month having run 43.4km. Which has absolutely smashed through what I managed in January. Bringing my yearly total to 69km. According to Strava. So in actual fact I'm a little behind my target at the moment. However march is the month I am really going to push to catch up and hit all the new milestones I have set for myself.

Watch this space... ‏ — feeling great

So I took the plunge and upped my challenge from 300km to 500km. Hopefully I will achieve it but I always like to aim high and then it gives me the motivation to really push myself.

Thank you MedalMad for allowing me to increase my challenge for the year!
