My goal is to complete 1000K in 2019, not from my daily steps but focused fitness walking and running. I'm a newbie to running so January was all about walking, I'm currently about to start walking/jogging my mileage on February 1st, but by the end of the year I want to be comfortably and happily running it :) And it all has to be done outside, despite the weather!

The reason for me doing this is I lost my Mum last summer, which happened unexpectedly, and as a result afterwards my fitness levels took a huge nose dive. Basically any type of fitness became non-existent. So some time has passed and it's now a new year and time to set some new goals and to focus on wellness and fitness again.

  • Still adjusting to an early schedule and hoping to make it even a little bit earlier over the next week. Decided to stick with walking only again due to tiredness but have got running back in the diary for the start of May. I also only had time for short walks but as long as I'm outside everyday I'm ok with that at the moment. I did manage 4K this morning and what a beautiful start to the day. Fingers crossed this weather continues!

I decided I wanted to start getting my runs in during the early morning instead of at night so have been adjusting getting up earlier for this to happen. 6-6.30am starts with a busy workload haven't left me with much energy to run at all so I stuck with walking again this week. Another 21.6km done but hopefully when I adjust to the different time schedule I look forward to getting my running shoes back on. It's so quiet and peaceful at that time of the morning to be out.

It's been a walking week with a total of 24.4km done but will be back to running tomorrow. Only 639.92km left to go now until I reach my 1000K target! Nearly there lol......

Two short runs this week with a 6km walk today, a couple of short sessions on the treadmill and fitness walks everyday. Total distance for March comes out at 115.88km which I'm pleased with but a couple of km less than February's total. So I'm looking forward to what I can achieve in April and aiming for a personal best total, and more running! The lighter nights should help.
Also stopped today to take some photos while walking so my time for the 6km actually came in at 57:40mins which is my quickest longer walk to date.

Two short runs this week, walking everyday and over a million steps so far this year. Happy with that but hope to increase the distance once the weather gets better and the nights get lighter. Not all the km here counts towards this challenge as I'm only counting specific walks for fitness and runs but will work out my total tally this week.

It's been a soggy and slow paced week, I felt I was going backwards but then I read an article that said it doesn't matter how slow you go, just concentrate on distance so I'll take that. It was also one of those weeks where in my hurry to get out of the rain I kept forgetting to stop my Fitbit once back home. I think the record I achieved for my forgetfulness was a pace of 23'31". Today was happily more successful though and I even managed to dodge the showers for a 5K walk. The incentive of the Butterfly Challenge certainly helped with that! Fingers crossed for a good forthcoming week (and hopefully drier!).

It's been a walking week this week but it'll be back to running on Monday so fingers crossed for a decent forecast. Tallied up my February final distance total that counts for this challenge which is 117.29 km for the month. Works out 14.78 km more than I did in January so I'm pleased with that. Only 780.2 km now to go!

First MedalMad challenge complete! Really excited to receive the stunning Heart of Gold medal so had to do the 5k on the 1st. It was a little bit slower than I would have liked but with a family funeral this week and lack of sleep I've missed my running on Wednesday and Friday. But 5k is still 5k and it was a lovely walk with weather better than the forecast.

Went out on Monday and Friday sticking to the walk/jog plan. I missed Wednesday due to a family bereavement and 2 hours sleep so didn't think I would get very far. My distance on Friday was further, and I felt better, but my Fitbit didn't map my run at all or document the distance correctly. And so much for also feeling faster on the Friday.....I might just have to contest Fitbit! At least I made it outside and that's what counts. I'm still walking for fitness everyday, and today was a beautiful day for being outside. Slowly my distance is starting to increase as the weeks pass but I'm looking forward to being able to run more when my fitness increases.

Just tallied up my totals so far for this year's fitness mileage and have 102.51 km for January and 72.09 km for February up to yesterday. Only 825.4 km to go to reach my target so off to get my running shoes on..

I went out last night and could have been beaten by a snail. I decided to stick to a beginners walk/jog plan instead of trying to see how far I could run in one go like the other day but at least I made it outside. I've been cautious as a result of my right arch, which I think developed some niggles from me doing a lot of walking in non-specific boots but with proper walking boots and my Asics it now seems to be improving. Fingers crossed! I'm still walking everyday and have another walk/jog planned for Monday. Looking forward to it but I really wish I lived somewhere flat.

Yesterday I moved on from only walking to including jogging AND I finally learned how to combine my results with a photo (about time!). The only snag was it's not recording my time accurately. My jog yesterday was a short one at 12:52 mins as I'd already been out walking earlier but it shows 22 mins when I click through to share. So I'm currently trying to work this out and get it to record accurately...

My intention was to start jogging on February 1st but with snow and my new Asics I purchased online going walkies my well meaning plan has been delayed. Just a little though. I've still gotten outside for walking with my snowboots, there's just been a little skating instead
The sun has been out the past couple of days so here's to clear non-icy pavements for next Monday!

I went out yesterday to do a quick errand but ending up walking 5K because of this sunset. I couldn't help but walk towards it to take it in.
All the walking I've done so far in January is definitely paying off!
