    Another Marathon completed this month. OK it's only a virtual one which takes over a week to complete. It's a marathon though. So my trip to the local shop this week made me break out in hives and a cold sweat. At my age seeing Christmas in September is not good. Why is it getting earlier every year? Or is that just my imagination? I think the trick is just to keep moving and trust your instinct. I can avoid the offending aisle until mid November. Now its time to reset my fitbit that has decided to be as old as me and fail to synchronise any more. Maybe its time to be considering a new one.

  • Not really an incentive to walk but tubs of chocolate for £3.50 was a good enough reason? I actually try and take a tin of Roses for friends and staff at my hotel in Florida. This time round we hope to volunteer some time in a special place for sick children from around the world. So a tub of Heros would be appropriate here. My mission was to find a tub with an expiry date past April next year. This proved to be mission impossible. Given its only September there is still time to complete this. Important as its for all the check in staff at our annual charity run in Orlando. Done mid April for the last 10 years. No not really an incentive and each tub remains sealed. My reward cuppa and biscuit. Another week of my challenge completed.

    Another good week. Pain meds changeover has been OK but still having more pain than usual. Keeping up with my steps though. Now into September and its grey, dull and raining. Still warm though. Hard to believe how peoples thoughts are turning to Christmas. I decided to focus on doing a charity 3 months for those injured by drunk drivers. Funny how they almost always walk away without a scratch. Keep up the good work everyone.

    Doing my leg strengthening exercises all round the house. Walking sideways is very odd even more odd when my knees are tied together. At my age its hard to decide if having a hip replacement now or when I am older is better. I guess as long as the pain is kept at bay deciding one month at a time will work. Walking " normally" has been good too and slowly getting my motivation back. Pain is obviously less. Heading towards September that month brings more goals. Lets do this.

    Just left the house in shorts and top and it started. A deluge of rain and thunder. Turned around and just did a short work out set by my physio this week. Designed to strengthen hip and leg muscles. Doesn't do much for my hip pain though.. Just about managing now to keep up my steps. Totally lost motivation with all that's going on.

    Finally we have rain so its much cooler. Its been too hot to do much including sleeping. Salads are ok for a day or two then they get very boring and un-inspiring. Still it's healthy or so they say. Nearly another month over. Tried with the flower sprinker for my great grandaughter it just did not dance around the way we expected it to, she had fun though with all her garden toys. Great to watch a 2 1/2 year old try and figure put how to use a bat and ball. She concentrates so hard on problem solving. She is my inspiration.

    Just submitted my evidence for another 5 k. Changed pain meds as my hip is very painful. Just about managing now. Waiting for an appointment for orthopaedic surgeon with a view of being listed for a hip replacement. Hopefully it will improve things.

    Doing OK still on track with my steps. Getting towards school holidays now. Just a few jobs to do in the garden, including making a bench. Bought a new hose to attach to the sprinkler for my great grand daughter. She loves water play in the garden.

    Another month and a new set of challenges to be done. Now my leg problem has been dealt with. A new right hip is needed. Time to prepare for that and get on with my life. All I can do now is my best. It certainly won't defeat me just made me more determined to build my strength so my recovery will be short. I have a feeling the Mud Run will need to be cancelled.

    Great week family get togethers for birthdays. I made cake to celebrate. Walking is improving and finding a pace that suits me and my age as well as the most important factor, my medical condition. Just keeping focused and pushing forward. Got another 5 km award this week. Well motivated.

    Happy 3rd Birthday. I took advantage and signed up for 2 more marathons. What a great way to be motivated. This week has been relentless rain and so basically housebound. I have not yet developed the still of walking stick, umbrella and shopping bag. Parts of my area are underwater so I could try swimming challenges.

    Really enjoyed my older peoples keep fit class yesterday. 1960's and 70's music is so much better than the thumping of today. Bonus that we can sing along too. Thankfully I am on track for my challenge and losing weight slowly and steadily. OK only 0.5 kg a week but its a loss. Really struggling to get out and about today, the rain which started late afternoon yesterday has just not stopped. Some areas of the country will be underwater by the end of the week. Just hope nobody gets hurt as a result. Be safe out there everyone.

    So its now June. Nearly halfway through the year. Still here and still going. When I was younger they never had marathons. Who knows if I might have done one. At least with this, my dream of not one, not even 2 but 3 in one month. Very impressive even if I say so myself. Its not just the challenge people enjoy but your tangible achievement when completed. Just really one thing really wished to do. A MUD RUN.

    Bank Holiday weekend means a change in the weather. Kids off school so it should rain. Time to be checking flight prices for my next holiday. Figure if its October I need to sign up for the Scream challenge with the T shirt. Walking. has returned to my normal 6000- 7000 a day. Legs just about recovered from the overuse suffered in Orlando. Just need to remind myself of my age before any long walks are contemplated. Plenty in the garden to keep me busy next week.

    Hard to believe we are halfway through May already. Where has the time gone. Back on track now with doing my 5000 during weekdays and aiming for 3500 at the weekends. Learning to listen to my body at its current age and not the body I think its at. Managed to raise £53 for Stroke Care. I am pleased with that, the first time I have used walking to fund raise. I might do more to raise more money. Just need to think of something worthwhile. Keep going everyone, we are almost half way through the year now. Good luck to all.

    Still struggling from this overuse thing with my legs. Impossible to rest and be lazy, just not me. Happy that 4 marathons have been completed( ok virtual ones) and my annual 5k for Dawn. Just added another 5 k for the Stroke Foundation. A certain sense of satisfaction is a great feeling. Where next will my adventures take me?

    Well thats a new one " overuse" is a real medical problem. Another word for " hit the wall" apparently. It will take my knees and legs from 2 - 6 weeks to recover. I was reminded of my age again and the fact I am no longer a 16 year old. Back to 6000 steps a day and 4000 - 6000 at the weekend. Having done 115.3 miles on my 26 day holiday when my " normal" is 53. 4 in 30 days is nuts. Just rubbing more muscle rub on my legs.

    Now back from Orlando so I can re adjust my steps down. Just need my legs and knees to recover. Never again will that level of activity be repeated, too old and obviously my knees are too far gone now. Glad my holiday is over really from the point of view of walking so much.
