After a whole bunch of what I can only describe as naff and disappointing weeks, I have managed to get to the end of this week happy with my efforts! I have run every day this week, logging 5miles at 8.10 per mile average which is pretty fast for me over that kind of distance (generally at about 8.30 after 4miles), a second 1 mile with my wife on Tuesday followed by a 5k with Kieran in the evening to get his next infinity stone for his gauntlet challenge. Wednesday I hit a 7mile that was meant to be an 8-9 but I was struggling so had to bail out a little early. Yesterday I ran just over 3.5miles just to see if I could after Wednesday's difficulties. Kieran wants another 5k today and tomorrow so that he can get his next infinity stone and is determined to finish by September. If he sticks with that determination and we do run tonight and tomorrow, then I will feel obliged to go for even a 1mile run on Sunday to complete a full week of running which in my 9 years of running I have actually never achieved (I have 6 kids, the opportunity to stick with a run streak isn't there as my plans change constantly!) 20.1miles so far. literally just over a Marathon distance for the week if we do those 2 5ks (which if we do, i'll have to make that Sunday run a little longer than 1 to round it up to 30 - be rude not to!!)

Got in a run on Monday, then followed this up with a 1 mile run with my wife Thursday (her first ever run!) which I followed immediately after with a 5k on my own. Not a massive week miles wise, but I’ve been doing school runs every day for their first week back at school, but won’t be doing so next week, so hope to get out and stretch my legs for a couple of longer runs. My run on Monday finished off my 225km run the board and my son submitted his evidence of 20k towards his infinity gauntlet. Both our medals and his first infinity stone arrived this week. Happy Verlanders!

Managed to squeeze in a 6mile run in the heat yesterday and trying my luck for signing up to a half marathon for next weekend, although it’s the last weekend before the kids go back to school, so not overly confident of getting the green light on that one! I like the easy pace of life when the kids are off, but likewise looking forward to having that free time when they are at school to start logging some proper miles again. Seriously dropped off in the past few weeks. Although I have also convinced my wife that running is better than a gym membership (that she hardly makes use of) so she says she is going to come running with me once or twice a week once the kids go back now that my youngest will be at nursery every morning too 👍

Not great still, but managed to get back out there at least. I really enjoy running with my son, but being 8, it kind of limits how far I can go!
This week, I ran to the local cinema to pick up tickets for Angry Birds 2 (pretty good actually, if you haven't seen it!) which I managed to stretch out to 2.5miles. I then headed out again a couple of days later and ran 6miles, somehow managing to hit my normal pacing, despite not running more than 4 miles in over a month and feeling like I was really struggling.
I am hopeful of getting out again for another 2 miles at some point today with my son. not exactly flying feet, but I am eeking my way forwards!

A further unproductive week this week. Just really struggling to get out during these school holidays. Day time is almost impossible, night time is just as hard due to the kids staying up later and me being shattered by then too. really am letting things slip. need to buck my ideas up, to get my Run the Board medal I need to run around 40miles this month. Been out for two 2 mile runs with Kieran this week and hoping to do the same with him again today, but it's not cutting it. need to get myself out there for a longer run. grrr… so frustrating!!

managed to squeeze a single run in this week. only 3.2miles, but despite not running for over 2 weeks, I somehow managed to retain my usual pacing. This was also my first ever run outside of my 30's as I started running in October of 2009 after discovering I had a place in the 2010 London Marathon (I know, most people run THEN apply for a big race, but hey, I like to be different!) I had just turned 30 in that July. fast forward to my run this week and that was 2 weeks after my 40th birthday.
running in your 40's isn't different from running in your 30's. So I reckon I will do some more of it!
better had, I still have ~190miles to go to reach my 500miles for the year and also ~40miles for my run the board challenge which needs to be done by the end of this month

No run again this week. Just haven’t had the chance to get out there. Sounds like a lame excuse, but the only chance I got was Thursday. I was going to hit the coastline for 30mins whilst my car air-con was being re-gassed but on the day, my wife said it’s too hot it will be dangerous to run. I was going to anyway, but she got quite angry with me about my insistence, so I walked the road of the married man and just did as I was told. Good job too, I took a walk whilst waiting and was sweating within minutes. Thursday was a stupidly hot day! That new air con was good on the way home mind you! Onwards and upwards, got some making up to do now!

So, I didn’t post last week, so I thought with the retrospective look on it, if give it a bit more detail. Apologies for the long diatribe, I have actually gone into too much detail, feel free to scroll on by..!
I had a hard fought three miles on Monday, which I had hoped to follow up with a 5 on Tuesday, but the opportunity to get out on the tarmac just wasn't there.
I wanted to get in that 5 as the week represented an end of an era (no, although my 40th birthday on the Sunday I don’t mean my thirties!)
For the past couple of years, Kim has taken Iris to the school toddler group on a Wednesday in term time. Practically every week, with only a few that they have missed. For the last year to 18mths I have used that time to go out for a run wherever possible. As they are gone for around 2hrs, I have made Wednesday mornings my long run time (don't do long run Sunday..!) with the school year finishing the following week, this was the last session of toddler group and Iris won't be going back again as she will start nursery in September. I realise that means she is out for 3hrs every morning, but it isn't a specific day that I have locked in to do that longer run on, so won't be as affective at getting me out of the door.
As this was my last long run Wednesday, I wanted to go a bit longer. I'd love to have done the run I wanted a couple of months back when I ran to my old work and back, clocking 10miles. I wanted to extend that out, running the perimeter of the site to push that out to 12/13miles (at which point I would have detoured a little en route home to make it up to 13.1 - standard!!). Unfortunately I never got around to doing that run, with the week at CubJam, then our holiday, my regular running got interrupted and I scaled back when I got back into it, not really building back up to the bigger distances as yet. BUT, this was my very last toddler group run. I hadn't got out on the Tuesday, hadn't run anything more than 5 or 6 miles for a long time and I wasn't feeling too great either, BUT I was going out and going long(ish) I wanted to run at least 8 if not 10 miles.
I headed down towards the seafront for a coastal trot. I was feeling really rough and was struggling early on, but I had to push on. My headphones started beeping at me too, so I had a feeling this was going to be a hard run! I followed my usual path around the Ramsgate coastline and although when I got to the cinema I really REALLY wanted to turn down my usual road and head home that way, but I wanted to go longer so I pressed on for my originally planned route through King George VI park to Dumpton. As I headed through the park, at around the 4.5mile mark, my headphones died. 😧
I hate running without music and still had over 30mins worth of running to do
I had to keep on keeping on, so I pressed on forward and stuck to my plan. I headed back the same route as my run a couple of weeks back with some double backing on myself to boost the mileage. Although this time I stretched it out more, looping out and around the local shopping centre then home. I actually hit the 10mile mark when I was a few doors away from my house, so it turned out pretty well in the end!

No runs at all this week. Unfortunately life just got in the way. I was busy all day on Monday, had my twins’ 10th birthday Tuesday and then took weds and thurs off work as I had loads to do, so had no time Friday as I was playing catch up at work. So, I’m still yet to post my first run in my 40’s after my Birthday last Sunday. I did run 13 miles the week before, but didn’t post about it as I had a spa day, drinks, dinner out on Friday last week as my birthday treat. I’ll write that up separately now...
But, onwards and upwards. Need to pull my finger out and post some runs. School broken up for summer now, so daytime running is gonna be much harder for me.. wish me luck!!

A stressed out week with kids not getting the teachers we wanted for next year and problems with work meaning I was working until 11pm more than once this week took away all of my drive to get out there. I did manage to squeeze in 2 runs. Tuesday night and Thursday morning (I decided to claw back some of those extra hours and take a super long lunch break!) 5 miles in each. so at least hit my 10mile target for the week. I finished up on 8.08 per mile average pace on Tuesday and 8.30 per mile on Thursday. (it was hotter then, like - seriously hotter! and I wasn't as frustrated and angry on Thursday!) onwards and upwards, need to squeeze in a few more miles before next Sunday whilst I am still in my 30's!

Nothing exciting this week. I managed 3 runs, totalling just over 10miles, the hottest was actually the 3 mile 9pm run. I followed that with a 6mile coastal trot the following day and then a quick out and back run on Friday to buy tickets for Toy Story 4 for tomorrow. Can’t wait!!
Currently sitting somewhere around 275miles for the year, so on target for my 500

Only managed 8 miles this week as I had a busy week and was going away with my wife, just up to London to see Bon Jovi at Wembley (awesome show by the way!) then realised the hotel we stayed at had a gym, so hit the treadmill for 4miles Saturday morning.
I swear I was running faster than I normally do (average of 8:30 per mile pace) and was running for 40mins, but it said I was running ~9:30 per mile so only 4miles logged.
First time I’ve run on a treadmill for years and the first ever since I considered myself a runner. Boring isn’t it?? Found it hard going probably because of how hot I was and how monotonous it was. But really most disappointed with the pacing thing. Is this a treadmill thing??

Didn't manage too much. Was off camping last week with 700 cub scouts, so was drained all weekend devoid of any energy or enthusiasm. Monday I was back to work and had over 300 emails to deal with, which took me 2 days to action. I managed to get out for a 5 mile run on Wednesday, my first run in 2 weeks, which coincidentally was Global Running Day. Didn't manage to get out again, but hoping for a short run with Kieran tomorrow or Sunday before we head to Butlins for a week on Monday morning. Then I really do need to crack on as I've signed up to the run the board 225km challenge. Darn you MedalMad, you have me hooked on your challenges and fantastic bling! hahaha. Have to check out what others are available once I've finished this one (and buy a new Medal Hanger if I am going to keep getting these large medals!!)

Nothing major to cheer about this week. Kieran hasn't been feeling to great for the father and son run, so have been flying solo. only managed to get out for two runs this week, although, I did post 5.15miles on Tuesday at 8:28 per mile pace and followed that with an 8.19mile run on Wednesday at exactly the same pace.
Off camping with cub scouts from all across the UK from tomorrow until next Friday, so wont have anything to post next week, but back on it the following week before another break from running when I am at Butlins with the family for the week.

Snuck out of work on Tuesday for a cheeky 3.5 miles and then managed 8.1 on Wednesday morning despite being woken up at 5am. I didn't manage to get out at all on Friday as I was woken at 3am that day, so called into work sick to just have a chill out day. Took Kieran out for a 1 mile run on Saturday morning, just to ease him back in as he hasn't run for almost 3 weeks. He wanted to go further, until we got to about half a mile and he was struggling. I told him, I know what I'm doing son. you haven't run for a while, so first 1 or 2 runs you will find harder than they should be, but the fitness comes back even quicker than it dips. With this in mind, I'm aiming for a 2 tomorrow night then get him back on the 5ks.

11.5 miles this week. it's been a bit of a slow week without much opportunity to get out. it has also been raining. a lot. which has a somewhat negative impact on the enthusiasm and drive to get out there! 4 miles this morning, a 4.2 in torrential rain on Wednesday and a 3.2 on Tuesday

i'm somewhat confused, I seem to have 2 profile pictures and have been going on to my timeline each week to post what I have done, how I am getting on etc. This was part of the criteria when creating my own challenge, but am I doing it wrong? are those weekly posts meant to be on this page?

I've just signed up for a challenge that runs from June to August 31st and had the confirmation email and was hoping somebody could advise. Does the paragraph in my screenshot from this email mean that I can submit runs from now against this challenge and not just from 01June? If so, this will make things easier as Aug is school holidays so would be harder for me to get out running. If I can get my 225k done before they break up at the end of July that would be a real bonus!! Cheers in advance

double double strike this week. ran 5miles Tuesday lunchtime, then another 3 Tuesday night. Then headed out for another 3 Wednesday morning, with a 1.5 Wednesday afternoon.
Only short distances, but doing two in a day was a new challenge for me and strangely the second each day (although admittedly the shorter ones) felt much easier than the first, I thought I would be tired and struggle with them, hence the shorter distances. So, just over a half marathon distance covered this week. i'll take that

Kids back at school, back on it. 5 miles on Tuesday, 6 on Wednesday and then another 3.5 today. I struggled with those first couple of runs having been quite inactive for 2 weeks, but today's run seemed easier and I had an average pace of just over 8min/mile. shocking how quickly your running fitness drops off, but amazing how quickly it then comes back when you get back to it.
I also today received the London 26.2 monopoly medal in the post. I have to admit I feared it might be cheap looking or flimsy as the challenge wasn't expensive to enter, but it is a good looking solid bit of bling and I love it! I ran the 26.2 this month to earn the medal for my 8yr old son who has run a cumulative 26.2 in the 12runs he has completed since staring running with me a couple of months ago. He is going to be so absolutely stoked when he sees this!!! He'll probably just be a bit gutted he has to wait now until Monday to take it into school and show it off to his friends and his teacher! Also a running shoe keyring in the envelope which I will give him to put on his school backpack.
Thanks to all the team at MedalMad. My first ever virtual challenge and i'll definitely do another. Maybe even get Kieran to do one himself next time
